National published-price comparison

Document Shredding Price Index

What does drop-off shredding actually cost?

Compare published per-pound shredding prices from individual locations across the country. This index calculates the observed range and median directly from collected location records.

Every included price must have a published source, a source link, and a checked date. Chain-wide pricing and individual franchise prices are kept distinct.

Published per-pound prices

National Price Distribution

The national index summarizes per-pound prices from the location records currently collected. The range, median, and record count are calculated from those records only. Prices without a published per-pound rate are not included in these calculations.

National price data is being collected

The national range and median will appear when verified location records are available. No prices or statistics are estimated to fill missing data.

Each published figure will be traceable to its original source and checked date.

How prices compare

Per-Pound Price Distribution

Per-pound prices are the primary comparison unit because they allow published location rates to be compared on the same basis. Minimum charges and per-box prices remain separate fields rather than being converted into invented per-pound equivalents.

Distribution awaiting collected records

A distribution summary will be displayed when sourced per-pound prices are available.

Shredding Price Structures

Per-Pound Pricing

A published rate based on the weight of the documents brought in for shredding. This is the primary unit used in the national index.

Minimum Charges

Some providers publish a minimum charge. When documented, it is shown separately from the per-pound rate.

Per-Box Pricing

Some locations publish a fixed charge per box instead of, or alongside, a weight-based rate. These prices remain separately identified.

Price Data Standards

The index is built from prices published by shredding chains and individual locations. It is not a collection of customer estimates, review comments, or prices inferred from nearby stores.

What Each Price Record Includes

  • Location or provider name.
  • Published price structure and applicable rate.
  • Minimum charge, when published.
  • Per-box charge, when published.
  • Additional services, when published.
  • Source name and original source URL.
  • Date the published information was checked.

How the Statistics Are Calculated

The price range uses the lowest and highest collected per-pound rates. The median is calculated from the collected per-pound rates in the dataset. Each location contributes its published rate.

Per-box charges and minimum charges are not converted into per-pound figures. They remain separately reported pricing structures.

Statistics are updated when verified records are added or corrected. The national snapshot reflects only the qualifying records available in the dataset at the time of calculation. It is not a guarantee of the price available at any particular location.

Important Limitations

The index includes only locations with qualifying published per-pound prices. Locations publishing only per-box prices or other pricing structures are not included in the per-pound statistics.

The number of collected records affects how representative the national range and median are. These figures describe the collected dataset, not every shredding provider in the country.
